Match Report

Any lingering hopes of promotion for the Rovers this season seemed to be blown away on Saturday by local rivals Lanark Utd in a poor match at The John Cumming Stadium.

The match never really got going in thee early stages and the first action of note from either side came in the 21st min and it resulted in a goal for the visiting Utd side, Carluke lost possession in an attack on the right allowing Lanark to break on the left and a low cross was finished by Jarvie for 1-0 to Lanark.

The first chance of note for Carluke came in the 33rd min when a free in to the Lanark box fell to Stevie Murray but his blasted effort went just wide of the post.

Rovers made another couple of chances in the late stages of the half when Smart Osamdolar set Mark Weir free but his cross was cut out and fell to Dean Kindlan but his shot was weak and posed no danger to the Lanark defence, then a corner from Weir was headed just over the bar by Dean Kindlan, with neither chance being taken the visitors went in with a 1-0 lead at half time.

The start of the second half saw Osamdolar link up with Weir early on but Weir’s shot was well saved but any chance of a comeback was well and truly ended when Marc Napier was inexplicably ordered off by a card happy referee in the 50th min after a second caution for what looked to be an accidental collision with a Lanark forward.

The only chance of any note for the home side after this came in the 59th min when a cross from Nicky Hardie was knocked across the goal by Stuart Arnott for Gordon Murphy but after a good turn his shot ended in the side netting.

The game was virtually over a couple of minutes later when Carluke again gave the ball away on the right and a quick break saw a good second goal scored by the visitors for 2-0.

The rest of the match was pretty much played out without any chances of note being made and Lanark ran out comfortable winners in the end.
