Match Report

Inconsistency will prove to be the biggest factor if Rovers miss out on promotion this season as they produced another poor poor performance this week following on from last weeks fine cup win.

The match started very sloppily from both sides with the ball being given away too easily.

The first decent play from Rovers came from a Mark Weir cross that was narrowly headed wide by Mark Haddow then a couple of low crosses in to the box found no takers.

The home side eventually broke the deadlock in the 23rd min when Carluke were cut open at the back and a slap shot of a finish deceived the Rovers defence as it crawled home for 1-0.

The visitors did draw level shortly after though as Ian Watt forced a corner when his shot was blocked and after a bit of a scramble Greg Fernie was on hand at the back post to force the ball home for 1-1.

As the half drew to a close Rovers got to grips with the match and a Haddow strike was cleared only as far as Alberto Vezza but his effort went over the bar.

In first half stoppage time Gary Gow played a short free kick to Weir on the left and his perfect cross ball was headed home by Reece Lowdon at the back post to give Rovers a half time lead.

Half time Ashfield 1 v 2 Carluke Rovers.

The second half showed all that has been bad about Rovers this season as they proceeded to lose an equalising goal in 48 mins when a long throw was not cleared and the ball was again bundled home for 2-2 then they lost two quick goals from good Ashfield play to make the score 4-2 to the home side after an hour of the match.

Carlukes contribution to the remainder of the match was negligible with only a goal from substitute Stevie Murray in 78 mins to make it 4-3 after 78 mins giving any hope, the last contribution of note came from Weir who had another free kick blocked with a few minutes to go but all in all it was yet another poor day for Carluke Rovers.
