Match Report
Tonight was Carluke’s first home game of the new season in the West of Scotland Division 3. The game was against local rivals Lanark United who have put together a very good squad for the season ahead.
The game started quietly enough but Lanark were first to get on the front foot and started to press Carluke back. They created a couple of half chances as their front men dragged the Carluke defence over the park running into the channels. It was no surprise then when in the14th minute they got their opener. The ball was played down the right and when the ball was crossed in low across the box there was Jack Hamilton at the back post who side footed into the empty net from a tight angle. 0-1 Lanark.
Lanark were controlling the game at this stage and probing the Carluke defence with forwards running into the channels. It was therefore no surprise when a Lanark midfielder turned just inside the box and squared to Simon Eeles who had the easiest of tasks to knock the ball in for 0-2 to Lanark.
Carluke suffered another blow just before halftime when another slick Lanark move resulted in goal from Deryn Lang to make it 3-0 at halftime.
Carluke had it all to do in the second half and started brightly enough but they were undone in the 54th minute when the ball broke to Deryn Lang on the right and he fired in an unstoppable shot which hit the side netting to make the score 0-4 to Lanark.
Carluke were better in the second half and it was a more even encounter. However it took a horrendous mistake in the Lanark defence that saw the ball collected by Dom Small who turned inside and completed an excellent overall performance with a great strike into the bottom corner of Gareth Halford’s goal. 1-4 to Lanark in the 62nd minute.
The game see sawed after this but there was no more goals and Lanark ran out comfortable winners in the end.
