Match Report

Carluke travelled to Glasgow today to take on St Cadocs who were lying third in the Division and looking to push for promotion. So it was never going to be an easy day for the team and so it turned out.

St Cadocs played with a gale force wind behind them in the first half and Kenny Neill employed the right tactics of getting behind the ball and squeezing the space. This worked to great effect for the most part limiting St Cadocs to next to no chances but Carluke’s undoing was set piece corners.

In the 11th minute a corner was swung in from the left. It evaded everyone except the St Cadocs No4 who headed home at the back post. 1-0 to St Cadocs.

Carluke continued to defend well but were undone in the 20th minute when a nice one two at the edge of the box found No11 in the clear and he calmly slotted the ball past Dean Wilson in the Carluke goal. 2-0 St Cadocs.

Unfortunately for Carluke the biggest issue in the first half was when the lines were cleared, with only one man up front, possession was given back to St Cadocs which enabled them to push forward.

However as halftime approached Carluke were still in this game with the benefit of the wind behind them in the second half to come.

It was therefore a hammer blow when in 42 minutes St Cadocs got their third goal very similar to their first. A corner was curled in. Again the ball eluded everyone before finding No4 who bundled the ball in for 3-0. This was the halftime score.

The second half proved to be a turgid affair with very few chances. One of note was when St Cadocs No11 was through on goal but he was thwarted by a good save by the feet of Wilson in the Carluke goal.

St Cadocs completed the scoring and extinguished any faint hope Carluke had about getting back into the match when in 72 minutes a free kick on the right was played into the box and it again found No4 at the back post who saw the ball over the line for 4-0.

There was to be one more effort on goal from a close range header that Dean Wilson brilliantly saved but apart from that the game fizzled out and St Cadocs ran out 4-0 winners.

Next week Carluke travel to Newmains in the hope they can get back to winning ways and welcome back a few of the players who missed out today.
