Match Report

Carluke travelled today to Tollcross to play Vale of Clyde who are one of the better teams in the league pushing for promotion. It had all the makings of a difficult afternoon for the Rovers and so it turned out to be.

VoC were playing down the slight incline in the first half and started pushing Carluke back from the outset. A couple of good saves were made by Josh McGill in the Carluke goal before he was beaten for the first time in the 11th minute.

A slide rule pass down the right side behind the Carluke defence had the VoC No 11 rounding McGill in the Carluke goal and sliding the ball home to make it 1-0 to Vale of Clyde.
Then after that it was a comedy of errors from Carluke who were second best on the day but were a big contribution to their own downfall. VoC had a couple of chances which were saved by Josh McGill but in the 27th minute they got their second. A bad pass by Carluke sideways into the middle of the park went straight to VoC midfielder. He in turn passed to No7 on the left wing who ran through and scored the second. This seemed to open the floodgates…..

30th minute a sidefoot shot from the edge of the box made it 3-0.

Carluke managed to get on the scoresheet in the 35th minute when good play by Dom Small saw him pass to Mark O’Reilly who turned with his back to goal and fired a great shot into the bottom corner 3-1. However any thoughts Carluke had of a fightback were short lived as only 5 minutes later it was 4-1. The ball was given away on the halfway line and passed out to VoC No2 whose shot from the edge of the goal looped over the head of the stranded McGill. Then right on halftime VoC killed the game off when they made it 5-1. A ball to the Carluke back post found the unmarked VoC striker who headed the ball back across the goal into the far corner with the Keeper having no chance.

The second half got underway and in short it was more of the same with individual errors causing the Rovers to concede further goals.

In 50 minutes a long throw over the top of the Carluke defence found the VoC No9. He swiveled and fired a shot low into the net. 6-1. The on the restart a simple pass inside didn’t find a Carluke defender and found it’s way to No 9 again. 7-1.

Carluke had a chance in the 77th minute when Connor Curran was put through with just the Keeper to beat but he was pushed wide and the opportunity was lost. Then in the 80th minute a VoC corner on the left found their defender at the backpost and he scooped the ball over Josh McGill head to make it 8-1.

The scoring was completed in 83 minutes when again an innocuous ball found a Vale of Clyde player who lifted it over the head of the Carluke Keeper to complete the scoring on a thoroughly miserable day for Carluke Rovers. Final Score Vale of Clyde 9 Carluke Rovers 1.

Next Saturday Carluke at home to Lugar Boswell and will be determined to cut out the errors which cost the team so dear today.
