Match Report

Rovers played this their first competitive match of the new season entertaining Shotts Bon Accord at The John Cumming Stadium.

Carluke got off to the best possible start in the game when they opened the scoring after only 2 mins, goalkeeper Daniel Tobin played a quick ball out to Ian Watt who in turn fed the ball in to the path of strike partner Lewis McDougall who was unchallenged on his run in to the Bon Accord box before placing a great shot past the visiting keeper for 1-0.

The home side were having the best of the match early on and created a couple of chances for Stuart Mitchell from the right but both of these were blocked to prevent any increase of the score.

Shotts showed their attacking play in 15 mins when the broke on the right but a good save from Tobin at the expense of a corner kept the home lead intact.

Rovers doubled their lead in 17 mins when a fine move through the midfield set Watt up on the edge of the box he in turn put a good ball to McDougall then on to Mitchell who took one touch before firing a perfect shot over the Shotts keeper for 2-0.

Instead of keeping the grip on the match their play deserved Rovers allowed Shotts back in to the match and lost a goal from a free kick after 24 min s for 2-1 to give the visitors a foothold on the match.

Rovers created a good chance in the 28th min with good work from Jamie Dickson setting McDougall up but his effort was just wide of the target.

Carluke paid for this miss in 35 mins when a poor ball out of defence allowed Shotts to break on the right and a square ball across goal was stabbed home for 2-2.

Worse was to come for the home side in the final minute of the half when Tobin was harshly penalised for a hand ball outside the box and the free kick ended with a series of shots blocked before a chip to the back post was headed home to give Shotts an unlikely 3-2 lead at half time.

The second half saw chances few and far between with Shotts having the first chance in the 50th min when a free kick struck the bar before going over.

Rovers created a good chance in 65 mins when Mark Haddow’s strong challenge set Watt free but after racing in on the visiting keeper his final shot was saved.

Haddow himself had a chance a few minutes laterr but his header was wide of goal after an Ally Graham corner.

The visitors wrapped the match up in the 79th min when Carluke gave the ball away on the left and a good strike from wide gave a final score of 4-2 to Shotts.
