Match Report

It was Carluke Rovers final pre-season friendly before the big kick off of the WOSFL Division 4 next week.

It was an away trip to the Ravenscraig Stadium to face Division 3 side Greenock.

The boys were slow to start and Greenock Juniors took an early lead thanks to an excellent unstoppable free kick from outside the box.

The Rovers gradually came back into the game and it was all pretty even, then an excellent turn and one two with Israel Onwubiko seen him put an unstoppable shot past the Greenock keeper.

Greenock regained the lead before half time following a fortuitous break of the ball allowed a high lob into the box which the Greenock striker caught with a well timed overhead kick, although Garry Black in the Rovers goal got a hand to it the ball came in off the post.

The Rovers made a load of changes second half to give everyone a run out, this seemed to cause them to lose the fluency they were playing with in the first half.

Conditions became somewhat trickier as the forecast rain arrived and made for a slick surface but Greenock seemed to be handling it better and made it count before the end as a lob towards the Rovers goal that seemed to be going over dipped over the despairing keeper.

Another good work out for the boys and more learnings for the management team.

It’s down to the real stuff next week as Saltcoats Victoria come to the John Cumming Stadium where it will be all about the points in the WOSFL Division 4.
