Match Report

Carluke started this home Scottish cup tie in good style and made chances from the off with Jonny Wilson playing Ian Watt through in 2 mins but the strikers shot was well saved.

The home side did take the lead a minute later though when they won a free kick 30 yards from the Lugar goal and Mark Weir stepped up and confidently placed the ball wide of the visiting keeper for 1-0 to Carluke.

Lugar showed they were not there to only make up the numbers as the game wore on and with the Rovers looking for off side in 9 mins they played on and it took a good save from Gordon Bruce in the home goal to keep the home sides lead intact.

The lead for the Rovers was doubled mid way through the half when Scott Bellew played a good ball down the right which Wilson did not give up on and he put in an excellent cross for Watt whose shot came back off the post but Gordon Murphy was quickest to react and forced the ball home for 2-0.

The first half scoring was rounded off in the 42nd minute when Bruce picked out Chick McCole with a clearance and his flick on found the on rushing Ryan Smillie who advanced just in to the Lugar box before slipping the ball past the visiting keeper for 3-0.

The match should have been beyond Lugar ass the second half began but they drew a goal back in the 50th min when a short pass inside their own area from Carluke allowed them in to score at the back post for 3-1.

The home keeper was involved in another of the Rovers goals in the 62nd minute when he played a ball to Wilson who glanced it in to the path of McCole who was upended in the Lugar penalty area at the expense of a penalty, Weir stepped up again and another confident finish restored the Rovers three goal lead at 4-1.

This should have seen Carluke go on to finish off the visitors but it was in fact they who got the next goal when they broke down the left before a cut back was finished low in to the Rovers net for 4-2.

The last chance of any note fell to Carluke when Smillie was played in but after rounding the keeper his final effort was cleared for a corner that came to nothing.

The remainder of the match was quite scrappy with neither side coming too close to a goal but Carluke are quite happy to see their name in the 3rd round draw for this years cup.

Carluke team.
Bruce, Bellew, Murray, Soutar, Wilson, McCole, Haddow, Murphy(McDougall), Weir(Hill), Smillie, Watt.
