Rovers recorded their second successive victory in the space of 3 days with a strong second half performance against Muirkirk FC .
Early in the first half Carluke displayed dire defensive deficiencies going a goal behind after 3 minutes when the Ref wrongly awarded a corner to the visitors to everyone’s disbelief.
The kick was swung in from the right and headed in at the back post unchallenged.
Rovers huffed and puffed their way into the game and created their first clear scoring chance after 28 minutes when a Carluke corner was headed clear to the edge of the 18yard box with Peter Byrne collecting then chesting and volleying the ball low to the keepers left only to see his shot turned round the post.
A minute later Byrne had another shot charged down inside the penalty box as Rovers applied more pressure on their opponents goal.
On 35 minutes Cassidy played an inch perfect through ball to Haley who raced in on goal though was wrongly judged to be marginally offside by the Ref.
Carluke came close to levelling the match before half time when Lowdon and Byrne combined down the right flank to find Kane unmarked in front of goal who snatched at his shot sending it inches wide of the right hand post.
Half Time Carluke Rovers 0 Muirkirk FC 1.
The second half started with Rovers immediately upping the tempo of the game whilst showing greater urgency to play their wingers in behind the Muirkirk defensive line and perseverance paid off in the 55th minute when Biggart outpaced his marker down the left and crossed to Haley who headed the ball home at the second attempt from close range to level the game at 1-1.
On the hour mark a neat one touch passing move down the left involving Kane , Cassidy and Biggart set up Byrne at the back post who’s first time volley came back off the bar setting up a counter attack for Muirkirk who’s centre forward found himself one on one with Rovers Keeper Liam Grant who stood big and tall to make a fantastic left handed save.
On 62 minutes Muirkirk were unlucky not to go ahead when the Rovers defence panicked following a deep left wing cross to the back post was half volleyed across goal and rebounded off the inside of the left hand post.
The loose ball was picked up by Kane on the halfway line who turned and sprinted towards goal. He was blatantly fouled on the left edge of the box and the resultant free kick was floated in by Biggart onto the head of James McAllister who bulletted the header into the net from close range.
Rovers extended their lead in the 70th minute when Biggart floated a corner kick onto the head of McAllister who nodded the ball to the feet of Byrne who made no mistake firing the ball into the net from 4 yards.
