Match Report

Eglinton visited the John Cumming Stadium today, in what was expected to be a tight match based on last season’s encounters, where Eglinton edged out the Rovers 1-0 at the same venue and the two teams played to a 3-3 draw in Kilwinning.

It quickly became clear that Eglinton had strengthened their squad and were playing some impressive football. Carluke’s defense faltered early on, allowing Eglinton to take an early lead—a setback the Rovers could have done without.

Chances were few and far between for both sides, but Carluke got a lifeline when the referee awarded a penalty, which James Miller calmly converted to level the score at 1-1. Ben Patterson nearly put Carluke ahead when he broke through on goal, but his shot went just wide.

The score remained 1-1 at halftime, with neither team creating many clear-cut opportunities.

The match continued to be evenly contested until another defensive lapse from Carluke allowed Eglinton to regain the lead, making it 2-1.

Carluke began to find their footing in the game, but their momentum was disrupted when goalkeeper Garry Black pulled his hamstring during a kick-out. After a delay, Josh McIntyre came on to replace him in goal. Unfortunately, Josh had little time to settle before Eglinton scored an unstoppable goal into the top corner, extending their lead to 3-1 and effectively putting the game out of reach.

The match ended 3-1, leaving Carluke frustrated as they continue to struggle to get the results their efforts deserve.

The team will hope to turn their fortunes around on the long journey south to Campbeltown next week, as they look to finally get their season on track.
