Match Report

The visitors at the John Cumming Stadium today were high flying Cambuslang Rangers who sit proudly at the top of Conference B.

This was going to be a tough outing for a Rovers team who have been ravaged by injury all season.

The wind was to play it’s part in the game and Cambuslang took the advantage of it in the first half. The game started well enough for Carluke, giving up some possession to Cambuslang but restricting them to no real attempts on goal.

Their first chance came in the 20th minute when the ball was bouncing about in the penalty box and he No9 managed to only balloon it over the crossbar.

Due to the wind a similar incident played out only a couple of minutes later. This time a great save by the feet of Carluke Keeper Dean Wilson stopped the ball from ending up in the back of the net.

Cambuslang were getting closer to scoring but at the same time Carluke were getting forward also and playing some good football.

It was however an unfortunate coming together in defence that led to a penalty for Cambuslang. A Rovers midfielder was in the process of clearing the ball when a Rangers striker nipped in and took the ball of his toe. Unfortunately the midfielder’s follow through caught the striker and the Ref pointed to the spot.

The penalty was duly converted to make the halftime score 1-0 to Cambuslang.

Carluke started the second half well and created a couple of half chances but Cambuslang always had the edge and went close in the 48th minute when No9 headed just past the post.

It only took a further 2 minutes however for Cambuslang to put the game to bed. A great run by their sweeper through the heart of the Carluke midfield saw him play the ball out to the left and the resultant low cross left the easiest of tap ins for striker Gemmell. 0-2

The final nail in the coffin for Carluke came in the 83rd minute when Cambuslang sub Gordon Dick cut in from the right and slotted the ball home to make the final score Carluke Rovers 0 Cambuslang Rangers 3.

A good showing by Carluke today and they will be looking to finish the season with a couple of wins.
